A strong and determined voice for our student body
Accessibility and Involvement
My focus is on providing a strong and determined voice in the room where the decisions are being made, making sure we are converting our issues into real results. This year I have been an active part of communicating our shared frustration and actively opposing issues surrounding accessibility/communication in areas such as technical services, key dates and graduate shows. Having worked as hard as possible to combat these issues and address our concerns, I want to campaign for physical student representation at the top where these decisions are being made so that our needs are met and we are not blindsided. We want to see a shift towards a more fair and equal culture between senior staff and the student body in regard to access and decision making.
Visibility and Solidarity
Everyone deserves to feel seen, heard and understood, no matter what, and to have their needs effectively communicated where it matters. I plan to provide tangible visibility, aiming to be a recognisable physical presence and reconnect the student’s union with the student body by being present on the ground. I will make sure I split my time between campuses, giving equal time to every school so that every student’s experience is maximised. I plan to get the Students Union and rep system running from day 1, nurturing these relationships and increasing student feedback across the board, collectively from student reps as well as from individuals, through suggestion boxes, online Q&A’s/surveys, and consistent and diligent face to face contact.
Community and Network
I will work to enable access to more opportunities in and outside of university, and to meet and network with students and alumni across the RCA to provide communication and collaboration between different schools and campuses. I want to prioritise more solidarity and representation for marginalised voices within the student body, especially LGBTQIA+, POC and disabled students. As a queer, neurodivergent and working-class person, I am aware of the difficulties one can face when entering an institution such as the RCA. One of the most important things I’ve gained from my experience here is a strong network of creatives who lift each other up through collaboration and sharing of knowledge and experience. I want to enact an increase of this shared knowledge and make sure everyone has the same access to opportunities such as awards and bursaries, open calls, residencies, job opportunities etc.
