RCASU President

As RCASU President you are the democratically elected leader of the SU.

President

Salary - £24,461

Part-time - 4 days per week

1st August - 31st July

Responsibilities Overview:

The RCASU President represents the student body at all levels across the college; from Student Council meetings to the College’s various committee meetings. They ensure smooth running of the Students’ Union alongside the Vice-President and the Union Director and helps to cater for the needs of the students.

  • A resourceful organiser, able to manage time and resources
  • A good communicator, comfortable with using web-based communication tools
  • An understanding of how to meet the cultural, social, and recreational needs of the college community.

Specific Duties:

1. Committees

The President should:

Keep up to date with the developments around the college and mediate between students and staff.

Attend College committees and be the voice of the students regarding their concerns and report back to the Student Council on the outcomes of such committees where it concerns them.

Read all documents regarding such meetings in advance of the meeting and discuss all relating issues with the Vice President.

Give a report to Senate regarding the activities of the Students’ Union.

Attend the College Council and Academic Standard Committee meetings and make any additional reports that arise dependent on the situation.

2. Representation

The President should:

Help Manage Appeals and Concessions – representing individual students in Academic Board for Concessions & Discipline meetings to discuss appeal and assist in organising student’s case for appeal.

Mediate between students and staff in any major issues and keep up to date with developments.

Lead initiatives for change and improvements on student led issues.

3. Social

The President should:

Working closely with Event Planning Team, initiate, and co-ordinate on budget creative projects. These are principally cross-course and cross-institution.

Make sure events represent the interests of the students.

Work with colleagues on organising the college-wide social functions and events.

4. Development

The President leads development and is responsive to change throughout the Union and the College whilst devising and implementing new initiatives and/or policy 

5. Speeches/Public Speaking

The President will give:

The welcome speech to all first years at registration, introduction speeches at department forums and the Convocation speech.

6. Registration

The President must be present and available to welcome students and help with the setting up.

The President and Vice President will work with staff during registration week.

During this time it is necessary for the President to attend course forums, where information will be provided about the Union, sabbatical representations and student representatives.

7. Extent of duties

RCASU Vice-President

AS RCASU Vice-President you will help lead the SU alongside the President.

Fixed Term - 1st August - 31st July

The RCASU Vice President represents the student body at all levels across the college; from Student Council meetings to the College’s various committee meetings. Ensures smooth running of the Students’ Union alongside the President and the Union Director and help to cater for the needs of the students.

  • A good communicator, comfortable with using web-based communication tools
  • A knowledge of college union philosophy and an understanding of how to meet the cultural, social, and recreational needs of the college community.

Attend College committees and be the voice of the students regarding their concerns and report back to the Student Representative Council on the outcomes of such committees where it concerns them.

Read all documents regarding such meetings in advance of the meeting and discuss all relevant issues with the President.

Make any reports that arise dependent on the situation and prepare such papers as are from time to time needed.

Deputise for the President in their absence. 

Organise and report to meetings of the Student Representative Council and to the Annual General Meeting of the Union.

2. Representation

The Vice President should:

Liaise between the student body and staff in major issues, ensuring they are up to date with the latest developments.

Lead initiatives for change and improvement.

3. Social

The Vice President should:

Assist the President with matters relating to the development of the Union, and shall ensure s/he is responsive to change throughout the Union and the College whilst devising and implementing new initiatives and/or policy.

4. Speeches/Public Speaking

The Vice President should:

Make a welcome speech to all first years at registration.

Make introduction speeches at department forums.

Make a speech at Convocation.

5. Registration

The Vice President should:

Be present and available to welcome students and help with the setting up of the RCASU presence at registration.

Attend course forums and provide information about the Union, officer representation and student representatives.

6 . Deputy to the President

The Vice President may:

Undertake any function performed by the President in their absence/unavailability.
