Update from the SU re Black Lives Matter

This week we have met with students, alumni, an Equality Action Group, and other Students’ Unions to work collectively in establishing short and long term demands and goals. We have secured Black Lives Matter to be on the agenda for the next RCA Council meeting in early July.

We have spoken to the RCA about creating a yearly scholarship fund for Black students and supporting Free Black University.

A student has set up a template you can use asking Universities to set up scholarships - which you can read here and send to any institutions you have studied with.

The White Pube have made a template for writing to Arts Institutions for what actions and commitments they will make which you can use here.

You can also use the Artists Support Black Lives template and ask for donations to Free Black University.

We are making a reading list to collate resources and ask for the College to imbed these into their programme reading lists. If you have any recommendations, please add them here.

Next week Halimo, the Equality and Diversity officer is hosting a Black Student Forum on Wednesday, 3-4pm. We hope you’ll join us. There is also a list of resources for Black students who may need some additional support here.

Finally a reminder that we’ve put together a list of Black Lives Matter resources here. We’ll be discussing one of the films we recommended (The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975)  on the 23rd June click here to find out more.
