Dear Students,
In the next couple of months we know there will be many days of teacher strikes. We wanted to share with you a couple resources that might help you to understand the strikes better - why they're happening, what you can do to help, what your rights are as a student, and also what our position is. As a Students' Union, our task is to support you the students, and that is our top priority. But as UCU has so clearly said, "our working conditions are your learning conditions". A better experience for tutors is a better experience for students.
We shared our strike statement with all students earlier in the academic year, but we're including it here for your reference.
The Royal College of Art’s Students’ Union support RCA staff in striking for fair pay and equitable working conditions. We value and encourage the fair treatment of all members of the college community, and believe that a better staff experience means a better college, and better learning environment for students.
That said, the Students’ Union’s top priority is our students. We understand that the strikes may cause disruption in learning, and for that reason we hope the strikes can be resolved as quickly as possible, so that student learning is disrupted as little as possible. We hope that staff and students are able to continue to support each other throughout this time.
Wishing you a great term,
Your SU Presidents.
