In the Beginning There was a Box...
Myriads of Things is a participatory programme by Transparent Domain featuring online artist-led workshops and public talks. The programme is inspired by Chapter 42 of Dao De Jing that reads, “The Dao gave birth to one, one gave birth to two, two gave birth to three, and three gave birth to Myriads of Things.” The chapter manifests an abstract and complex set of relations that humans are entangled in, as poet John Donne once wrote, “No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.”
As the second phase of the long-term Fungi Initiative that focuses on processes and participation instead of products and outcomes, the programme begins with a video-based workshop, In the Beginning There was a Box (2020) by multidisciplinary artist Sara Rodrigues. By revisiting the history of commercial plants and loss of self-sufficiency, Sara invites you to create a food-growing box and think through problems around land ownership, food production and trade. To participate in Sara’s workshop, please visit www.transparentdomain.org. The full programme information will be available on the 20th of July.
Myriads of Things is led by Transparent Domain (Rhona Eve Clews, Lenette Lua, Sara Rodrigues, Elena-Andreea Teleage, Sean Tseng and Sara Wu).
