About The (Feminist) Welding Club

( THE FEMINIST ) WELDING CLUB is a community for women  (and allies) at the RCA and beyond, driven by a clear mission:

  • To host peer-to-peer welding sessions
  • To encourage women to explore and excel in traditionally underrepresented fields like metalwork
  • To foster the exchange of skills and knowledge.
  • To provide support throughout the creative process.
  • To centre our efforts on creation.
  • To cultivate alliances and solidarity.
  •  To engage in open conversations about experiences with discrimination in the field
  • To establish and strengthen networks of female makers and designers.

The club is rooted in the concept of reciprocity. In creative endeavours, reciprocity often translates into collaboration, where designers and artists share their ideas and resources. It strongly emphasises the significance of mutual support and understanding among women from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Club members unite to bolster and celebrate each other’s work, forming networks that foster mutual growth and development. In this manner, the club strives to ensure that women in the product design sector establish robust connections and approach their work with increased confidence and creativity, breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields like welding.
